My name is David Fields and I want to invite your player (ages 9-18) to attend my hitting school. I am a certified Pro Hitting Coach, trained by Dave Hudgens, a Major League Hitting Coach for the Toronto Blue Jays. Coach Hudgens has over 40 years experience as either a player, manager, coach or instructor in professional baseball and he is regarded as one of the top hitting coaches at the pro level. Hudgens was a full-scholarship player at Arizona State University, where he led the team to two consecutive College World Series. In 1977 Hudgens was voted All-American and all WAC, after leading the team to the College World Series Championship and leading the team in Home Runs and RBI’s! I’ve worked with Coach Hugdens’ program since 2002, and have personally logged over 50 hours with him at his baseball facility in Phoenix, AZ. He taught me how to take the most complicated subject in sports down to a simple step by step understanding and performing all the mechanics of an “Elite” MLB swing. My clients that have completed the first level of instruction have sent me very positive results from using this form of hitting, reporting a significant increase in batting average as well as hitting with more power. The head coach of the women’s Georgia Bull Dogs softball team, Lu Harris, was a fellow attendee at Coach Hugdens’ training. She uses this system with her team, which has resulted in 10 straight NCAA Division I championship appearances. Coach Hudgens states approximately 7 out of 10 kids nationally do not receive correct hitting instruction, resulting in little chance to advance past high school level of play. Kids should receive proper instruction as early as possible to avoid development of bad habits, which result in incorrect muscle memory movements. I attended a 2011 Utah High School State championship baseball game, and observed only one player who was even close to performing the correct mechanics. One of the teams had two hitters at the top of line up doing a double stride (stride foot coming back then forward again), which resulted in timing being behind all game with the other teams pitchers throwing in the low 90s in speed. There is a reason no one in the MLB is doing that movement today. College or Pro scouts are not interested in batting averages or how many home runs a player post up–they are looking for mechanics that result in a short hand path with power driven from the lower body. As noted above, proper training is best begun as young as possible. My program provides the most comprehensive instruction in Utah in proper hitting mechanics for an elite level hitter. I’ve started a new program where I provide group instruction with an entire team, to ensure everyone (coaching staff, players, parents) is on the same page with the correct instruction and drills. I did this program with a Spanish Fork Super League Team, and the parents and coaches reported they have had a 100% improvement from last years hitting performance.

As a full-time pitching coach, I have the privilege of working with around 100 hard working girls and young women at any given time from age 8 to 19. I am based in West Haven, Utah, but my clientele extends beyond Utah to include athletes that travel regularly from Idaho, Nevada, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. Technology plays a crucial role in my coaching approach, with a daily reliance on tools such as 4D Motion, slow-motion video, radar, Diamond Kinetics smart softballs, OnForm, TrueCoach software, and more. My approach to lessons sets me apart from traditional lessons. I only do one-on-one lessons, and every session is a personalized exploration of your pitcher's mechanics and individual needs, involving a thorough review of multiple videos on a large screen, breaking down their movements and corrections in fine detail. We engage in close-up drills, full-distance pitching, continuous speed tracking, 4D Motion Analysis, biomechanical testing, motor preference testing, and detailed analysis of ball movement and spin using Rapsodo and Diamond Kinetics Pitch Tracker. Throughout the process, I provide comprehensive education and explanation to ensure your pitcher grasps the rationale behind each movement. I never give corrections without justification. Any drills are to specifically address an adjustment the pitcher needs—I will never assign drills for the sake of having a drill, or because it is the latest facebook trend. I am always ready to provide clear explanations. If I am unable to immediately explain a movement, I will find the answer or adapt my approach. In lessons, I actively collaborate with pitchers to implement corrections through low-energy movements and drills, progressing toward a full pitch. I believe pitching instruction is far more than full distance pitching with corrections, and far more than repetitive generic drills. I don’t do lessons from a bucket or a distance. I work closely with and around your pitcher, viewing, recording, and adjusting from all angles. My role is to educate and guide, empowering pitchers to implement corrections independently at home with the knowledge gained during our sessions. Pitchers leave each session equipped with a clear understanding of what to focus on and how to practice. I'm fortunate to be part of a select group of top-tier pitching coaches from around the nation. We interact daily through Facebook Messenger, phone calls, texting, private websites, exclusive Facebook groups, weekly and “off the cuff” Zoom calls, and we travel to nationwide clinics and joint training sessions. Our collective expertise encompasses all aspects of pitching and related athletic disciplines. Our focus is to understand and teach the most efficient and effective pitching mechanics, paying meticulous attention to the intricate details that impact health, speed, location, and spin. These modalities help me delve deeper into movements and problems and find alternate solutions where traditional methods don’t work. Baseball has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. I've coached youth baseball and softball for nearly 20 years, spent four years coaching high school baseball, and continue to play baseball at a high level year round. I still catch 9-inning games on the regular. I specialize in catching and hitting instruction, focusing on fundamentals, confidence, and game situations. My coaching style is energetic, encouraging, and detail-oriented, and I love helping athletes of all ages reach their potential while enjoying the game. Currently working with 30+ softball catchers from ages 11-18 and baseball players from ages 6-18. Open to all scenarios. A lot of my catchers get hitting instruction from me as well.
